The Kirillawala Vernacular School commenced its journey with seven students on the 6th of the month of May in the year 1964 AD. The school was initiated on a piece of land owned by Mr. DR Jayasuriya at Kokis Kade junction in Kirillawala, situated in Siane Korale within the Gampaha district.

In its early stages, community support for the school's development was evident. Land contributions came from various individuals, including Kirillawala Weerasinghe Arachchi Ralahami, Mr. Pabilis Perera, Mr. Rupasingha, Mr. Don Karolis Jayakodi, Mr. Neil Varagoda, Jaya Kodiya Arachchi's Mar Noliya Appuhami, and Mr. Koraneliye. The school's physical location appears to have changed over time, thanks to these generous contributions.

While the first principal is not mentioned, records indicate that in 1894, under Mr. Gunawardena's leadership, the school had twenty-one teachers and 150 students. By 1926, the school had two sections for boys and girls. Mr. KD Andiris oversaw the boys' section, and Kothalawala managed the administrative affairs of the girls' section. From 1935 to 1952, Mr. Don Thomas Ursinghe served as the principal, with twelve students appearing for exams, and ten of them passing.

On the first day of the month of January in 1964, as part of the school reorganization program by the Mahara Board, the separate sections for boys and girls were merged, transforming the institution into a Maha College.

After 1965, Mr. Karolis and later Mr. EA Edirisinghe served as principals. In 1971, the school operated as a two-day school. In 1973, Mr. Ranasinghe became the principal, and by 1974, the school acquired a junior laboratory and additional buildings. In 1975, the teaching staff increased to thirty-one, catering to seven hundred and fifty students. The "Siribara Mahara" exhibition was held on the school grounds in 1976.

By 1984, the school expanded its human resources to sixty-three students, introducing subjects like science, woodwork, home science, dance, music, library, pottery, agriculture, and commerce. Until 1988, principals included Mr. JA Ranasinghe, Mr. PV Karunaratne, Mr. K. Sumathipala (acting principal), and Mr. N. Kodikara. In 1990, Mr. GMP Pathirana assumed leadership, and an education unit for children with special needs was initiated.

On the fifth day of the seventh month in 1991, Mr. K. A. D. Edirisinghe became the principal, and on the 26th day of the tenth month in 1992, a new three-storied building was constructed. Over time, additional sections such as karate, under-achieving, health, and social initiatives were introduced.

In 1993, Mr. K. Sumathipala resumed the role of principal. Under the Navodya School Project (1995-2000), the school acquired valuable physical resources, including a home laboratory, computer unit, safety fence around the stadium, band, and the construction of the Mahara Division Education Office.

In 1999, Mr. El Alahakon assumed the role of principal, leading a staff of ninety teachers and overseeing 2200 students.

In 2006, Mr. Ratnayake became the principal, and a significant milestone was achieved in 2009 when the college was designated as a Central High School on the 25th day of the third month. In 2010, Mr. Jasinghe briefly served as the principal.

The year 2011 saw the appointment of Mr. Saman Priyalal Jayakodi as the principal. Under the School Ten Thousand Development Project in 2014, the primary section was separated into a small school, the faculty of technology and the technology laboratory were established, and a swimming pool was constructed. The transfer of the campsite allowed for the establishment of a broader school campus, marking the college as a 1AB super school with enhanced physical and human resources.

On the 19th of the month of October in 2017, Mr. R.W.M.A.Bandara Weerasinghe assumed the position of the current principal, ushering in a new era for the college. As of now, there are ninety-eight teachers and 2287 students. In 2018, the construction of the swimming pool and auditorium was completed. In 2019, the swimming pool was inaugurated for students, and the Seva Piyasa shop line was effectively opened for the school community. Presently, a new three-storey building is under construction in the junior section to accommodate the growing number of students in the school.

It should be noted that even in the face of the challenges faced by the country between 2019-2022, the educational opportunities of students through the online teaching system were implemented to continue effectively. Similarly, in the year 2020, it was named as a national school under the "Nearest School Best School" project.

Currently, students are given opportunities to engage in many co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that help in the promotion of human resources, and other sports as well as rugby baseball etc. are among them. Students in many active associations such as health association, photography association, media unit, Buddhist association etc. are taking their opportunities in an ethical manner.

In the year 2023, Mahara randinu Sangramaya trophy was won in the Mahara cricket match held with Mahara Presidence College and another victorious chapter was started.

Consistently year after year, Kirillawala Madhya Maha Vidyalaya has upheld its esteemed reputation as a leading educational institution in the area.
